vs Clover

Clover Alternative

Clover offers a full hardware ecosystem. We take a different approach — software-only, browser-based, no contracts, no proprietary terminals.

Proprietary hardware costs $599-1,799 upfront

36-month contracts with early termination fees

Monthly software fees range $14.95-94.85 on top of hardware

Hardware is locked to Clover — cannot use with other systems

Clover built a hardware ecosystem. We skipped the hardware entirely.

Clover has a well-designed hardware lineup — from compact card readers to full countertop stations with customer-facing displays. For businesses that want a polished, purpose-built terminal on their counter, Clover delivers a professional setup. The hardware looks and feels like restaurant infrastructure.

The trade-off is cost and commitment. Clover hardware starts at $599 and runs up to $1,799 for a full station. It comes with 36-month contracts, early termination fees, and monthly software charges on top of the hardware investment. And the hardware is locked to Clover — if you leave, the terminal becomes expensive shelf decoration.

What we do instead

Simplrr is software only. It runs in a web browser on whatever device you already have — a tablet propped up at the counter, a laptop in the back, a phone in your pocket. No proprietary hardware. No terminal to ship back if you cancel.

The system is built offline-first. Every order is stored locally on your device the moment it is created. If your internet drops mid-service, nothing changes from your perspective. Orders keep flowing. When connectivity returns, the system syncs everything in the background. Your staff does not need to know or care whether the WiFi is working.

Pricing is month-to-month with no contract. The Starter plan covers unlimited orders and online ordering. Pro adds loyalty rewards and analytics. Max is built for high-volume operations. Cancel whenever you want. There is no early termination fee because there is no term to terminate.

Who each is best for

Clover is the better choice if you:

  • Want purpose-built, professional-looking hardware at your counter
  • Need a customer-facing display for order confirmation
  • Prefer an all-in-one system with integrated payment processing
  • Are comfortable with a 36-month commitment
  • Have the upfront capital for hardware investment

Simplrr is the better choice if you:

  • Want to avoid upfront hardware costs entirely
  • Need month-to-month flexibility with no contract
  • Run a business where internet reliability is unpredictable
  • Already have devices that can run a web browser
  • Prefer to separate your POS operations from payment processing

The hardware question

We will not pretend a tablet running a web app looks the same as a Clover Station on your counter. Clover’s hardware is designed to look professional and withstand daily restaurant use. That matters to some businesses.

But hardware is also the biggest source of lock-in in the POS industry. A $1,200 terminal that only works with one company’s software is a commitment that outlasts most restaurant leases. Simplrr runs on hardware you control. If you leave us, your devices still work for everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clover hardware is purpose-built for POS — durable and professional-looking. But it costs $599-1,799 upfront and is locked to Clover. A tablet you already own costs nothing and runs Simplrr just as well.
